Save On Petrol
Petrol is ridiculously expensive these days, making it almost impossible for most students to keep driving. However, there are a number of easy ways in which you can reduce the amount that you spend on petrol.
1. Keep Revs Low
The most fuel efficient amount of revs is between 1500 and 2500.
2. Close Your Window
Open windows cause a lot of drag and therefore increase your cars fuel consumption.
3. Drive Smoothly and Efficiently
Acceleration uses a lot of fuel, so try to drive as smoothly as possible.
4. Drive Below 70mph
Drag increases massively above 70mph badly effecting your cars fuel consumption.
5. Find Your Cheapest Petrol Supplier
This can be done easily by using a brilliant site called PetrolPrices.com.
6. Buy Petrol In the Morning or Evening
At these times petrol becomes denser because of the cooler temperatures, therefore you get more petrol for your money than you would do in the middle of the day when it is hotter.
7. Get Rid of Clutter From Your Car
The more weight in your car the more fuel that your car will consume, so get rid of any unnecessary excess weight.
8. Check Your Cars Tyres
Make sure that they are pumped up to the recommended level for your car, as under inflated tyres increase resistance to the road.
9. Share Lifts
Why not share lifts and share the cost of petrol. See the Share Lifts and Save Money article for more information.
10. Get On Your Bike
If you can you should consider alternatives such as riding your bike or using public transport, as it may be much cheaper.
