How To Find The Best Free Software

There is absolutely loads of brilliant free software on the internet to cover all you needs, so you never need to pay for any ever again. All you need to do is find where it is.
Why Is There Free Software?
They are a number of reasons why companies or individuals provide software for free but the main ones are because the software is used to promote other paid software, or because the software has been built by a community.
Where Can I Find Free Software?
There are plenty of places to look, however I will discuss the best places below:
1. Download.com
Download.com is one of my favourite sites, as it contains a huge amount of excellent free software and games and contains ratings for each one. To find the software you are looking for you can read through their various guides or simply search selecting the free license. Always check the rating and what other people have said about a piece of software before you download.
2. FileHippo.com
FileHippo.com is a new favourite of mine, as although it does not contain the quantity of software availible on download.com, it has most of the best stuff and has very quick download speeds.
3. SourceForge.net
SourceForge.net is another good place to look as it is one of the biggest sources of free open source software on the net. However, the site is not the easiest to navigate.
4. Google Search
If you still can’t find the software you are looking for, a good old fashioned google search may provide you with what you want, however been weary of dodgy sites. A good free tool to warn you of bad sites is McAfee SiteAdvisor, which shows a red icon if a site is bad and a green if it is good.
Money Saving Student Top Tip
Always check reviews and what other people have said about a piece of software before you download it, as there is occasionally some dodgy stuff out there.
